Fifteen men on a dead man's chest, Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum -- Robert Lewis Stephenson

Do you devour the Pirate movies? Do you want to feel sea spray in your face as you batten down hatches and trim sails? If so, you are a rugged adventurer at heart and you don't want to be tamed by the soft life offered in the 21st Century. Do you wonder if you were you born in the wrong century? Actually, if you have a yearning to be a pirate you were born quite a bit late, since the Golden Years of Piracy was between 1700 and 1730.

It is true that modern pirates are a plague on the high seas. Semoli thieves have recently become very active and quite annoying. However, don't confuse these ruthless thugs with the pirates of old. That is about as accurate as comparing Johnny Depp to Blackbeard. Certainly, legendary pirates were not scholarly gentlemen, yet many had strict codes of conduct by which they lived - and the threat of severe retribution if they broke the rules of the sea.

Though Captain Jack Sparrow is purely fictional there were infamous pirates such as Blackbeard (born Edward Teach) and Bartholomew Roberts. Most pirates were not as much fun as Captain Jack. They had unfortunate habits, such as maiming, robbing and kidnapping.

Do you have what it takes to ride the high seas (we know you wouldn't maim, rob and kidnap)? Have you immersed yourself in pirate lore? Let’s take the quiz and see, eh, Matey?
