Published on June 14, 2008

We would all love to be buff, slim and fabulous looking. Buff takes a lot of work. However, slimmer is fairly easy to achieve. There are a few metabolism facts and truisms you should know to get slinky. Have you been doing your homework? Your metabolism is a major determinant of body weight. One, you want to slim down, two you probably like the look of muscle, rather than fat—well, fat is OK in certain places.

Therefore, you are wise to learn as much as possible about how your metabolism work s and how to enhance its performance. By burning glucose, our fuel source, we are able to function. Calories are the units burned in process. This is how it works...

The fuel that your body runs on is called glucose. You get most of your glucose from carbohydrates. Ideally, you will only take in enough to use. If you take in more carbohydrates than you can break down you will store it as fat. If you begin to use more carbohydrates than you need to fuel your body, you have alternate pathways to breakdown fat which can be converted into glucose. So the fat is converted back into carbohydrates and used as fuel for your body. -- Van Hoeck
